Porcelain was and still is a high quality material!

Porcelain is a ceramic material which originated in China. The history of porcelain in Europe begins with imports from Asia. However, a German porcelain industry has emerged with porcelain suppliers which are still today well-known and connected to high-quality. The name porcelain comes from the Latin word “porcella”. The colour of porcelain resembled very much the white colour of the Venus shell which was called porcella in the old days in Italy.

Making porcelain includes the heating of several raw materials, which contain – amongst other chemical substances – a big amount of clay, to temperatures between 1200 and 1400 degrees Celsius.

Porcelain has always been used in regions which have a strong dining, tea or coffee drinking culture: Chinese porcelain, or especially Ming porcelain, for tea sets for traditional green tea ceremonies or porcelain made in Germany for black tea traditions in Northern Germany. Porcelain tableware or even richly hand painted porcelain, for example French porcelain, with traditional or exotic designs and colours have always been a status symbol in social life and an integral part of any dinner invitation.

However, porcelain products are also used for sanitary purposes or as porcelain collectibles such as a porcelain figurine, porcelain dolls or porcelain vases.
